چکیده

During the austral summer of 1980-1981, a study was undertaken on the applicability of the Vollenweider-Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) phosphorus loadingeutrophication response relationships to Lake Vanda, a permanently ice-covered, meromictic lake located in the Wright Valley of Antarctica. The Vollenweider-OECD empirical relationships had been developed on the basis of load-response couplings for more than 300 lakes and reservoirs around the world that have a wide range of physical, chemical, and morphological characteristics. However, the Vollenweider-OECD empirical relationships had not been evaluated for their applicability to a body of water as oligotrophic as Lake Vanda or to one with its unusual physical and chemical characteristics. The Vollenweider-OECD phosphorus load-response models did indeed describe the relationships found for Lake Vanda when the model input was adjusted for the algal availability of the phosphorus load. Results of this study extend the range of conditions for types and trophic states of bodies of water for which the Vollenweider-OECD eutrophication models can be applied.

Relationship between nutrients and phytoplankton biomass based on chlorophyll prediction model in Zribar Lake of Kurdestan, a case study

Zaribar Lake is a little shallow lake in Kurdistan province of Iran and it is faced to eutrophication. The study of phytoplankton biomass-nutrient relations is important in eutrophication management and there are many empirical models to predict phytoplankton biomass (chlorophyll a) based on nutrient (nitrogen and phosphorous) amounts in the lake. Evaluation of these empirical models and compar...

Eutrophication in Poyang Lake (Eastern China) over the Last 300 Years in Response to Changes in Climate and Lake Biomass

Poyang Lake is suffering from persistent eutrophication, which is degrading the local ecosystem. A better understanding of the mechanisms that drive eutrophication in lake systems is essential to fight the ongoing deterioration. In this study, hydraulic residence time (HRT) was used to evaluate Poyang Lake's trophic state. A hydrology and ecosystem forced model was constructed to simulate long-...

Eutrophication potential of lakes: an integrated analysis of trophic state, morphometry, land occupation, and land use.

Despite being inside a protected area, Lake Sumidouro has been impacted by the anthropogenic occupation of the surrounding area since the 1970's, compromising the ecological integrity of the lake and the sustainable use of natural resources. This study examined the current trophic classification of the lake and developed methods for improving it through an integrated analysis of morphometric an...

Biological and chemical factors influencing shallow lake eutrophication: a long-term study.

The focus of eutrophication research has tended to be upon short-term and experimental studies. However, given the range of factors that can influence eutrophication dynamics, and that these matter over a range of time scales, some discrete, some continuous, eutrophication dynamics may only be fully investigated when long-term, time-series data are available. The present study aims to evaluate ...
